How do I join the Ukulele Orchestra of St. Andrews?

Easy! Come join us at practice, check out our website and follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to find out what’s going on in our ukulele community. Come to the Ukulele Social Club at the Bay County Public Library, 898 W. 11th Street in Panama City, on the first Saturday of each month, from 10 a.m. to 11:30. The first hour is especially for beginners, followed by a jam session for all levels. Everyone is welcome, no matter what experience level.

How do I get access to the Orchestra’s music?

I don’t yet own a ukulele; can I borrow one?

Yes, you can check one out from the ukulele lending program at the Bay County Public Library. All you need is a library card. The lending program is so popular, you may have to add your name to the waiting list.

 

I’m a beginner. What type of ukulele should I buy?

Good question! There are four sizes – ranging from smallest to largest - soprano, concert, tenor and baritone. There are many different brands, starting at around $40 and up. We recommend you visit a local music store and try out the various models to find one that fits your needs.

 

Where can I take ukulele lessons?

Come to the Ukulele Social Club at the Bay County Public Library, 898 W. 11th Street in Panama City, on the first Saturday of each month, from 10 a.m. to 11:30. The first hour is especially for beginners, followed by a jam session for all levels. Everyone is welcome, no matter what experience level.

 

There are many resources for learning to play ukulele, including the internet. Check out beginner tutorials on YouTube or, if you have a Bay County Public Library card, check out ArtistWorks, for unlimited access to step-by-step instruction for an extensive assortment of musical instruments, including the ukulele. 

 

From time to time, beginner ukulele classes are offered at Floriopolis, in St. Andrews. Contact Floriopolis on Facebook for more information. Or call the local music stores and inquire about lessons.

 

Where can I purchase a ukulele in Panama City?

Check out our local musical stores, Leitz Music downtown on Harrison Avenue and on Panama City Beach at Pier Park on Panama City Beach. Leitz Music is a long-time supporter of the Orchestra’s community endeavors. The staff there is especially knowledgeable about ukuleles.

 

I’m a beginner. Can I still become a member of the Ukulele Orchestra of St. Andrews?

Absolutely! All skill levels are welcome, whether you are just starting out. Or are an advanced player. You will find members of the Orchestra are friendly and love to share their enthusiasm for the ukulele.

Where and when does the Orchestra practice?

Check out our Calendar page here or on Facebook.  UOSA usually meets every Wednesday evening, 6 to 8 p.m., at the Bay District School Board building, from time to time, there may be a change in this schedule, so be sure and check the calendar on our website. During practice we learn new songs, and practice particular songs for upcoming performances.

Is there a fee to join? No.

 

What kind of music do you play?

We play all kinds of music! You name it and we have probably tried it, or are willing to do so.

 

How do I book a performance by the Orchestra?

Go to our website or Facebook and send us a detailed message, such as date, time, location, how large a venue, whether it is indoors or outdoors.
